Women's Soccer Tops CSUN on the Road

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Kicking-off a month of road games, Santa Clara women's soccer beat CSUN by a final of 1-0. The win puts the Broncos at 6-4-0 on the season while the Matadors are 3-6-1.

Santa Clara returns to the field Sun., Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Long Beach State.

Santa Clara was outshot by CSUN 14-9 and shots on goal were 5-5. Sofia Huerta led the way for the Bronco offense with the lone goal. Andi Tostanoski picked up five saves in net.

In the 11th minute Santa Clara got a free kick that was taken by Brittany Ambrose. Ambrose took a shot but it went to the goalkeeper at the right post to keep the game scoreless.

In the 19th minute Jordan Jesolva took a direct free kick that she sailed over the right side of the goal.

CSUN nearly scored in the 24th minute. A cross came in to Brittanie Sakajian who got a head on the ball but it hit the post and was collected by Tostanoski.

Santa Clara was outshot by CSUN 8-3 and shots on goal were 2-1 in favor of the Matadors in the first half. Ambrose led the way for the Bronco offense with two shots and one on goal. Tostanoski picked up two saves in net.

Huerta got the offense going in the second half with her team-best eighth goal of the season. She took the ball from the midfield and ran through the defense before finishing with a shot in the left corner of the goal.

Stephanie Sorg had a chance to add an insurance goal in the 83rd minute on a loose ball volley but her shot went well over the net and the score remained 1-0 Broncos. Two minutes later Sorg attempted another shot but Jovani McCaskill made the save.

The clock ran down and the Broncos held on for the 1-0 win.
