SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Senior Kat McAuliffe (KM) spoke to Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about her aspirations for the upcoming season and how the women's soccer team can reach these goals.

SCB: You are a senior this season.  What does that mean for your role on the soccer team and around campus?

KM: As a senior, I feel it is my personal responsibility to make each and every moment of this year count. Staying connected with my teammates both on and off the field is a huge part of that. It is also important that I be a positive role model in the classroom and around campus.

SCB: There were several outstanding players who graduated last year from this team.  How have the returners been stepping up to elevate the team?

KM: Losing so many seniors definitely required more of an adjustment than it did in previous years. With that said, I believe it brought our team closer together. We knew we had to work that much harder and rely more on each other to accomplish our goals. While the captains do a lot to help lead us on the field, no single person is above another. This team is so incredible and resilient and it wouldn't surprise me if this were the year that Santa Clara returns to the Final Four.

SCB: What have you been looking for from newcomers to the team?  How have they been meeting your expectations?

KM: All we can ever ask of our new players is that they come in ready to work hard and learn from both the coaches and the veteran players. This year these girls have gone above and beyond these expectations and we couldn't be more pleased with how they're performing.

SCB: Your guys' season ended last year in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.  What are your goals for this season?

KM: Our goal is to extend our season all the way to December, and bring the National title back to Santa Clara!

SCB: How are you and the whole team working to achieve these goals?

KM: In order to achieve our goals and find success, the team must stay focused and make improvements whenever necessary. There are always opportunities to get better and we will stay on track as long as we continue to take advantage of each and every one.
