Huerta Up for Soccer News Net College Boot

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a tremendous season that saw her named co-WCC Player of the Year and First Team All-WCC, Sofia Huerta of Santa Clara women's soccer is up for yet another award. Huerta is on the fan ballot for the Soccer News Net College Boot, given to the Player of the Year in Division I soccer.

"I am very honored to be nominated for the College Boot," said Huerta. "Any time I am recognized for playing soccer it is rewarding. I couldn't have had the year I did without the help of my coaches and teammates. Even though we didn't make the NCAA Tournament our team did all that we could. I also want to congratulate the other nominees."

"We're very excited for Sofia to be up for a national player of the year award," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "She was Conference Player of the Year and hopefully she'll get recognized as an All-American later this winter. She's also coming off an All-American year last year so she's done it all. Sofia is a great player of the year candidate and we think the world of her. We're wishing her the best in the voting."

Huerta was second in the conference with 17 goals and 37 points. She attempted 94 shots and 49 on goal while scoring a WCC-best six game-winners. She accounted for over 50% of the Broncos goals this year. This is the 10th time a Bronco as won WCC Player of the Year.
