Huerta Nabs Second WCC Player of the Week Honor of 2014

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second time this season, Santa Clara women's soccer senior forward Sofia Huerta was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Huerta led the Broncos to two wins over the weekend while scoring three goals. Huerta was also named Player of the Week after a hat trick vs. Fresno State in September.

"I'm really excited to be named Player of the Week for the second time this year," said Huerta. "This weekend was a big weekend for SCU as we are fighting to make the NCAA Tournament. I'm so proud of my team for having a must win mentality and motivating me to finish my chances this weekend. I couldn't have performed without my teammates."

"I'm very happy for Sofia and she's a very deserving candidate," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "She scored three of our four goals this week and has scored five goals in the last three games. She's really hitting her stride at the perfect time and she's showing the quality that got her an All-American last year."

Huerta scored twice vs. Gonzaga in the Broncos 3-0 victory and had the game-winner in the 85th minute vs. Portland in a 1-0 Santa Clara win. Against Portland Huerta had 12 shots and five on goal. For the week she had 17 shots and eight on goal.
