Santa Clara, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis team completed the second day of the Cal Winter Invitational in Berkeley Saturday, posting a 3-3 record in singles against No. 60 Fresno State and 1-3 record in doubles favoring No. 42 Saint Mary's. The third and final day continues Sunday as the Broncos take on No. 60 Fresno State in doubles starting at 12:30 p.m. and No. 7 Cal in singles at 2:00 p.m.

"On the singles side against Fresno State, we played a new lineup that we have never tried before and came out on top at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions, which is promising looking forward to the rest of our season," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell. "Individually, Stephanie played fantastic against two very good players and captured two good wins this tournament. I am very happy with her success, and overall, the entire teams' this weekend."

In singles, sophomore Stephanie Skaras moved up to the No. 3 position in the Bronco's line up. After falling in the first set by a score of 3-6 to Melissa McQueen of No. 60 Fresno State, Skaras shut out her opponent in the next two sets 6-4, 6-3, tallying her eighth win of the season.

No. 26 Katie Le came up huge at the No. 1 singles spot, beating Aishwarya Agrawal in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. In addition, senior Kelly Lamble battled through three sets to defeat Rana Sherif Ahmed 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

"My success so far comes from putting in the hard work on the court everyday," said Skara. "I need to continue to work on my fitness in order to get through those three set matches this season. I am looking to challenge Cal in singles and Fresno in doubles while keeping up my form."

In the doubles matches, Lamble and Maggie McGeorge came up just short in the tiebreaker at the No. 2 position against Saint Mary's. In a close match, Le and Jessica Agra defeated the Saint Mary's duo in the first position by a score of 8-6.

"We played very good doubles vs. Saint Mary's, especially when Jessica and Katie topped their duo at the No. 1 spot," added Cabell. "Maggie and Kelly came up just short against the Saint Mary's duo in the No. 2 position and I was pleased with their effort in the tie breaker."

The final day of the Cal Winter Invite begins Sunday when the Broncos take on No. 60 Fresno State in doubles starting at 12:30 p.m. and No. 7 Cal in singles at 2:00 p.m. on the Cal Berkeley campus.
