SANTA CLARA, Calif.—With four players named All-WCC, Santa Clara University's women's tennis head coach Ben Cabell was also named the league's Co-Coach of the Year. Based on overall season performance and the results from the WCC Championships, Katie Le grabbed First-Team in Singles along with Jessica Agra for Second-Team in Doubles. Le will find out on May 1 if she has received a NCAA bid to the Tournament.

Kelly Lamble and Chelby Cooke were both named All-WCC Honorable Mention in Singles.

In his sixth year as head coach for the Bronco women's tennis team, Cabell led the team to a 12-10 overall record and a program's best 7-1 WCC record, giving Santa Clara a share in the WCC regular season co-Championship for the first time in history. Cabell was chosen as WCC Co-Coach of the Year for the first time along with Gualberto Escudero of Pepperdine.

"This is a huge honor and I am very appreciative," said Cabell. "It really comes down to my team. Without the girls, we would not have had the level of success that we experienced this season. They really earned it, and I am very grateful for the recognition of my fellow WCC coaches."

Over his six seasons at the helm of the women's tennis program, Cabell has coached numerous All-West Coast Conference selections in Erika Barnes, Kim Daniel, Carmen Pham, Kacie Wagner, Kelly Lamble, and Katie Le and Jessica Agra. In 2007, Daniel became Cabell's first ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection. Under Cabell, Le was named the 2012 WCC Player of the Year and qualified for the 2012 NCAA Women's Singles Championships.

In her third season as a Bronco, Le has continued to raise the bar by collecting the All-WCC First-Team honors for her singles and Second-Team honors doubles play this season. The Milpitas, Calif. native ended the 2013 regular dual season with a 13-8 singles record and 12-9 doubles record.

"I appreciate being recognized this year especially since our conference has improved so much now having three players in the top 35 for singles," said Le. "Jess and I have been playing doubles for three years together now and we have definitely improved as a team."

Her highlight wins came over then-No. 9 Anett Schutting of California on Jan. 20 when Le topped Schutting 6-3, 6-1 at the Cal Winter Invite. Le also defeated then-No. 20 Nicole Gibbs of Stanford on April 3 by a score of 6-7(1), 6-3, 1-0(8). Most recently, Le clinched the deciding league match to put the Broncos into first place when she beat then-No. 17 Jenny Jullien of Saint Mary's on April 7.

Le has been recognized by the WCC for her outstanding play each of her three years of being a Bronco. She holds the title of the 2011 WCC Freshman of the Year and the 2012 WCC Player of the Year along with First and Second-Team honors in singles and doubles every year. The junior has been playing at the No. 1 singles and doubles position for Santa Clara since arriving on the Mission Campus in 2010. 

By Le's side on the doubles court is senior Jessica Agra. The duo ended the 2013 dual season with an overall 12-9 doubles record at the No. 1 spot for the Broncos. This is Agra's third consecutive year being recognized by the WCC for her doubles performance with Le. The pair won a key match against Laura Claus and Anna Depenau of San Diego by a score of 8-1, sending the team to its first victory over USD in program's history. On April 21, Agra and Le topped then-No. 64 duo Patricia Skowronski and Nicole Long of Oregon, 8-4.

"Even though we are disappointed we didn't make our goals of qualifying for NCAAs and getting ranked, we are still really happy that our efforts and hard work were recognized by the conference," said Agra.
