SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The third-seeded Santa Clara women's tennis team defeated No. 7 Loyola Marymount University by a score of 4-2 in the second round of the 2013 West Coast Conference Tennis Championships today. The Broncos move on to the semifinal round against No. 2 Pepperdine, taking place on Fri., April 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

Santa Clara, ranked No. 58 nationally, tallied the doubles point and three singles victories to top No. 7 LMU. The Lions defeated No. 6 BYU by a score of 4-2 on Wed., April 24 in the first round, but came up against the Broncos today.

"We are going into the conference tournament tied for first for the first time in program history, and we are definitely pumped up to win the WCC title and get a bid into the NCAA Tournament," said Bronco junior Katie Le. "We have been fighting for this opportunity all year, and this win continues to give us the confidence moving forward to Pepperdine."

In doubles play, Santa Clara (12-9) walked away with the first win of the day with Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge's 8-4 win over Reka Rohonyi and Miya Jin of LMU. Stephanie Skaras and Delphine Rouvillois topped Tory Parravi and Kristine Kouyoumjian, 8-3. Due to WCC Tournament rules, the third doubles match was left unfinished.

Turning to the singles competition, the Broncos needed three victories to claim the victory. First off the courts was No. 28 Le at the No. 1 position for the Broncos. She bested April Bisharat of the Lions by a score of 6-1, 6-4, and walked away with her 19th win of the 2012-13 sesaon. On Court 5, freshman Rouvillois improved to a six-match winning streak with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over LMU's Miya Jin. Sophomore Skaras was able to solidify the match for the Broncos with her win at the No. 6 spot. She defeated Reka Rohonvi in two tough sets, ending 7-6(5), 7-6(4).

The Broncos are now set for their semifinal match against second-seeded Pepperdine on Fri., April 26 at 9:30 a.m. Earlier this season, the Broncos fell to the Waves, 6-1, on March 30. This was the only loss suffered by Santa Clara in WCC play. Pepperdine also knocked Santa Clara out of the WCC Championships last year by a score of 4-1.

If the Broncos advance to the Championship match on Sat., April 27, they will play the winner of the semifinal match between No. 1 Saint Mary's versus No. 4 San Diego.
