STANFORD, Calif./ HAYWARD, Calif. — Santa Clara track & field set a pair of program records on Friday in the middle of a three-day stretch of competition at two meets. Zach Litoff became the second Bronco to break the nine-minute mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an 8:47.39 at the Stanford Invitational and Jack Davidson crossed the 5,000-meter finish line in 14:04.47 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.

Each Bronco bested records set by Joey Berriatua last season. Litoff took 15th place in the field of 45 runners with a time that ranks 13th in the NCAA and 11th in the west region. Davidson captured fifth place in the field of 227 runners with a time that ranks 37th in the NCAA and 18th in the west region.

Evan Misuraca won his 5,000-meter section by more than four seconds on Friday at Mike Fanelli with a 14:59.26.

Titilola Bolarinwa (2:19.10) and Bevin McCullough (2:21.81) won their 800-meter sections on Saturday morning at Mike Fanelli. The Bronco men placed three runners in the top 18 of an 800-meter field that featured 132 competitors: Brennan Lagerstrom (12th – 1:53.77), Christian Raslowsky (15th – 1:54.35) and Spencer Fischer (18th – 1:54.49).

FROM THE COACHES

Head coach Felipe Montoro: "I have been very pleased with our focus on competing and not being overly concerned with times. In races that provided an opportunity to run fast, we performed well and the times ended up being pretty fast as a result. Jack Davidson ran a patient race and really pushed himself in key moments to nearly pull off the win. His time has historically qualified for the NCAA West Prelims. Zach Litoff's progression in the steeple has been fun to watch. Brennan Lagerstrom nearly got the 800-meter record with a big PR.

"There were many notable performances but what stood out to me the most was our team's support for one another. Senior Evan Misuraca closed super hard over the final kilometer to get his heat win and a 16-second personal best. As soon as he crossed the line, he was surrounded by all of his men's and women's teammates who had been going crazy watching him win at 11 p.m."

Associate head coach Pete Cushman: "The team culture, the support, and the enthusiasm for one another's success continues to be a big part of what makes this team special."
