LAST TIME OUT
Santa Clara turned in strong performances across the board Saturday, April 13 at the East Bay Invitational. Brennan Lagerstrom set the program's 800-meter record with a field-best 1:53.17 and Janie Nabholz outraced 54 other runners at 1,500 meters with a 4:39.41.
Lagerstrom broke the previous program-best mark of 1:53.39, set by Robbie Reid at the 2010 Brutus Hamilton Invitational.
Spencer Fischer captured second with a 1:53.47 and Christian Raslowsky took third with a 1:54.16 to make it a Santa Clara sweep in the 800. Fischer's time lands him at third on the program's top 10 list while Raslowsky's is good for fifth.
Lagerstrom's program record is the fourth set by the men's team this season. Jack Davidson has broken the team's best marks at 1,500 meters (Cal Opener) and 5,000 meters (Mike Fanelli Track Classic) while Zach Litoff set the 3,000-meter steeplechase record (Stanford Invitational).
Nabholz won the women's 1,500-meter race by crossing the finish line in 4:39.41. Later in the day, she doubled back to capture third place at 800 meters on the strength of a 5:00.70. Carolina Avelar, Claire Cocales and Emma McCurry won their 1,500-meter sections to give the Broncos a victory in all sections they competed in at that distance.
Connor Lehl led a trio of men's runners at 1,500 meters by clocking a 4:02.05 to take fourth place. Santa Clara posted top-four finishes in four of five events overall.
