Josh Romanski (San Diego) and Roger Kieschnick (Texas Tech) had two hits. Tommy Medica (Santa Clara) threw out two base runners and drove in a run. Four pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout until the ninth, before the All-Stars scored a run and had three, two-out hits.
The Americans scored their first run of the summer in the first after Jordan Danks (Texas) led off the bottom of the first with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a Pedro Alvarez (Vanderbilt) sacrifice fly to lead 1-0. The U.S. would not let up, scoring in the first five innings to lead 7-0. Danks scored three runs on the night, reaching base safely three times.
The U.S. went up 3-0 in the second inning thanks to a two-run single by Jordan Henry (.Ole Miss). RBI singles by Medica and Josh Romanski (San Diego) made it 5-0 in the third, before centerfielder John Janco misplayed a flyball to center to give Justin Smoak (South Carolina) a two-run double to make it 7-0.
Eric Surkamp (North Carolina State) went the first 2.0 no-hit innings, striking out three, before Brett Hunter (Pepperdine) pitched two scoreless innings, while Shawn Sanford (1-0) (South Florida) struck out three over the next two perfect innings.
Chris Moore (0-1) went the first three innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits for the loss. Sanford was credited with the win based on score keeper's discretion.
