Head Coach Mark O'Brien
On the game:
"We had quality at-bats tonight and I think that was the big difference. Getting the leadoff batter on a couple of innings really helped our confidence, and we got some big swings from Gabe and Ryan tonight."
On Gabe Alcantar's tear to start the season:
"Gabe is a guy who takes the game very seriously, and he doesn't waste any pitches. He competes well on every pitch, and he's successful because he doesn't take any pitches off."
On Steve Kalush's superb relief effort:
"When Steve came out there it really gave us a calming presence. He threw his pitches for strikes, and did a great job. I was really happy with the way he came in and settled the game down."
Junior first baseman Gabe Alcantar
On his big night at the plate:
"Lately I've just been seeing the ball in the zone and trying to stay on top of it."
On his hot start to the season:
"Last year, when I was hitting well I started to get into a routine. I've been trying emphasize that this season and being consistent with it, and its transitioned into my performance in the game."
On the team's offensive production:
"Its great for us, and its great to see everyone contributing and getting the big hits."
Junior designated hitter Ryan Conan
On the team's offensive performance:
"Its huge. Our pitchers have given us solid efforts all year, and finally our offense is starting to get rolling. We just have to keep getting quality at-bats, and that's what we did tonight."
On hitting well the past few games:
"It's about confidence. When things are going well, it's easy to have confidence up there at the plate. I've been trying to keep sticking with my routine, and it's been helping out a lot."
On hitting his second home run of the season:
"It felt good to come through with the home run, especially after hitting into a double play a few innings prior. I wanted to do something to pick myself up a little bit."
