Evan LeBlanc Named WCC Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara Broncos baseball outfielder Evan LeBlanc earned the season's first West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor it was announced Monday by the league. LeBlanc played a crucial role in the Broncos' opening weekend, helping SCU to a 3-0 record.

The Tucson, Ariz., native batted .667 on the week (8-for-12), with one home run, four runs and seven RBIs. In the first game of the season against Utah Valley, LeBlanc launched a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help SCU to its 12-1 victory. He hit .500 (2-for-4) with three RBIs. In the second game of Friday's doubleheader, he batted 1.000 with one run and one RBI. In Saturday afternoon's contest, LeBlanc helped start things off for the Broncos in the third inning with a single to right field that allowed Kevin Madden to score and put Santa Clara on the board, 1-0. He hit .600 against the Wildcats with one run and three RBIs.

In his first season with the Broncos in 2007, after transferring from Yavapai Junior College, LeBlanc batted .302 with 54 hits, 11 doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs.

LeBlanc and Santa Clara return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against the Tigers of Pacific. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field in Stockton.
