SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball program announced that Curtis Wagner has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Santa Clara for the 2007-08 academic year. Wagner joins eight other signees in the recruiting class of 2007.
A first baseman and outfielder from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Wagner had an outstanding prep career. As a senior at Loyola, he hit .456 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs, while slugging .883. He also pitched 70.1 innings.
"We are very fortunate to get a player of Curtis' caliber at Santa Clara," said SCU head coach Mark O'Brien. "He had an excellent high school career and we believe that he will become an important part of our team."
The 6-1 Manhattan Beach native was named CIF Division III Player of the Year, All-LA Times, CalHi Sports All-State and All-Mission League in 2007, along with being his team's MVP. He also earned CalHi All-State honors as a junior in 2006.
Wagner joins David Abraham (Bellarmine College Prep/De Anza College), Bricklin Foley (Archbishop Mitty HS), Aaron Headrick (Cupertino HS), Thain Simon (Jesuit HS-Sacramento), Matt Beers (Woodinville HS-Washington), Chris Morton (Bellevue HS-Washington), Joe Supple (Jesuit HS-Portland), and Kyle Van Dusen (Scottsdale City College-Arizona) in the 2007 recruiting class.
The Broncos earned a fourth-place finish in the West Coast Conference in 2007 to help Santa Clara clinch the WCC Commissioner's Cup for the second time in three seasons.
