Santa Clara Baseball Announces Thanksgiving Advanced Hitting School as well as Holiday Kids Camp

Nov. 7, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Bronco baseball has announced the dates for its annual Holiday Baseball Camp series, which will be held on during different times throughout this fall and winter. On Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 23-25 (Fri - Sun), Bronco baseball will be conducting its Advanced Individualized Hitting School under the lights at Schott Stadium. During the Holiday season, SCU will again offer an installment of its popular Kids Holiday Instructional/Games camp on Dec. 26-30 (Wed. - Sun).

Advanced Individualized Hitting School Information
Dates: November 23-25, 2007
Where: Schott Stadium, Santa Clara University
Time: 6-8:30 p.m. (under the lights)

Based upon feedback from prior camp participants, the Santa Clara Coaching Staff has designed this hitting camp for the most serious junior high or high school players. This camp is ideal for players interested in attending Santa Clara University in the future. The school is instruction-intensive. Limited to 24 students, each session will include one coach for every four players. Players will be taped every session. At the conclusion of each session, the staff will meet in-full and spend several hours analyzing each participant's offensive mechanics via video and utilizing written notes taken from the session. Attention will be given to areas that will enhance each participant's game in both the short-term and beyond. Finally, an instructional plan will be designed for each hitter for each day, specifically addressing areas of improvement for the swing. Players will also be provided a notebook in order to take notes during each session in order to better retain the drill work and instructional information that is presented. A uniquely designed offensive hitting school that is first of its kind on the West Coast. The entire camp will take place at night under the lights.

Instruction will be provided by Matt Daily of the Santa Clara Baseball Staff, Rich Weidinger, former assistant soach at Stanford University, along with other area coaches.

CAMP DESCRIPTION: Our most popular camp session of the summer is now offered in a similar format for the Holiday Season! Participants will first be grouped by age, ability and prior experience. During the morning session, participants will be coached on several baseball skills, fundamentals and team concepts. Members of the camp will receive instruction in a variety of areas including hitting, infield play, outfield play, pitching, catching, rundowns, double plays and base running. In the afternoon, players will use the instruction received during the morning session and put skills to use in game situations on the Schott Stadium field. Each team will play together for the duration of the camp week and will be coached by a hand-picked member of our camp staff. When not playing games, campers will hit in our hitting facility or watch baseball-related video content in our Varsity Team Room. Santa Clara seeks a coach to camper ratio of one coach for every 10 players. All sessions will be held at Stephen Schott Stadium, Santa Clara's 3-year state of the art $8.6 million baseball facility. Campers are asked to bring appropriate baseball attire and equipment including: cleats, baseball pants, hat, glove, bat and helmet (if available). Campers may bring their own lunch or purchase a BBQ lunch for $25 for the duration of the camp, which should be indicated at the time of registration.
