SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Broncos baseball shortstop Jon Karcich was named the 2007 Bethesda Big Train's best hitter, manager Sal Colangelo announced this week.
Colangelo singled out Karcich for his "great approach at the plate and ability to hit the ball to all fields." This summer, Karcich hit an impressive .289, while belting three home runs. His on base percentage was equally noteworthy at .379, placing him second on the team.
Karcich saw action in 32 games this summer, starting in 31. He tallied 16 RBI, had 33 hits in 114 at bats and produced the team's second best slugging percentage, .439. The Big Train finished third in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League this summer with a 24-18 record.
For the Broncos last season, he started 54 games as a freshman, registering 39 hits, 28 runs, four home runs and 30 RBI.
