LOS ANGELES – Evan Mobley posted 17 points and his older brother, Isaiah, scored 13 to lead USC to an 86-63 victory over Santa Clara men's basketball on Tuesday.
Former Bronco Tahj Eaddy also scored 13 and Chevez Goodwin added 10 for the Trojans (5-1) who shot 47 percent from the floor, including 7 of 14 from behind the 3-point line.
A 10-0 run by USC, which featured six points from Isaiah Mobley, to start the second half was too much to overcome. The lead ballooned to 51-27 on Mobley's basket just 3 minutes into the half and Santa Clara (6-2) was never closer than 18 the remainder of the game.
Josip Vrankic and Christian Carlyle each had 13 points for the Broncos who shot 38 percent from the floor, including just 1-for-17 from beyond the 3-point line.
Vrankic was 6 of 11 from the field and Carlyle 5-for-8, but the rest of the team was only 12 of 42.
Evan Mobley was 6-for-7 from the floor and had three blocks, and Isaiah Mobley went 7 of 9 from the field and blocked two shots. They each had seven rebounds and helped the team hold a 44 to 26 edge in points in the paint.
Drew Peterson had seven points and nine of USC's 13 assists.
"Obviously, we didn't play well today, but I give USC a lot of credit," Santa Clara head coach Herb Sendek said. "They're a strong team and things just didn't go our way today. It happens."
Santa Clara, which suffered 18 turnovers, missed its first 13 3-point attempts before Keshawn Justice finally broke through by connecting with 7 minutes left in the game.
The Trojans led 35-17 after Evan Mobley's free throw with 5 minutes left in the opening half.
Santa Clara pulled within 37-25 and had a chance to cut the deficit to single digits in the final minute, but had turnovers on its final two possessions.
