A Scoreless Draw for No. 22 Men’s Soccer in Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 22 Santa Clara men's soccer opened the 2022 season with a scoreless draw against UNLV on Thursday night at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos (0-0-1) outshot the Rebels 19-14 including 14-5 in the second half but could not find the back of the net.  Preseason All-West Coast Conference selection Oladayo Thomas got off five shots to lead both teams while Donovan Sessoms tallied four to lead the Rebels (0-0-1).

Santa Clara had a couple of good looks in the second half but were turned away by Rebels goalkeeper Andrew Sway and the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute, Dabora's shot around the six yard box was saved by Sway.  And in the 80th minute, Thomas' header glanced off the crossbar.

Making his Bronco debut, goalkeeper Felix Schaefer came up with five saves while Sway had two for UNLV.
