Men’s Soccer Defeats Utah Tech 1-0 On the Road

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Oladayo Thomas scored the lone goal of the match in Santa Clara men's soccer's 1-0 win over Utah Tech on Monday night at Greater Zion Stadium.

The goal came in the 62nd minute on a well-placed assist from Joshua Dabora.  The redshirt junior forward picked up the loose ball on the right side, cut across the grain to lose the defender and chipped the ball over three Utah Tech defenders to the awaiting Thomas who headed the ball to the far post.

"It was a good win for us as we have been struggling to find a way," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "The game was a stalemate in the first half with no rhythm as both teams were posturing and looking for a mistake.  At the half, we talked about getting the ball into the final third, holding onto the ball and connecting on passes which is what we did on the goal."

For Thomas, a preseason All-West Coast Conference selection, it was his first goal of the season.

"Dayo did what he did all last season for us, which was to come into the game and to give the team a lift.  I was really happy for him to get that goal," said Rast.

The Broncos (2-2-1) had an opportunity to add to its lead in the 78th minute when Thomas' shot from a tight angle on the left side was saved by Trailblazers goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman and the subsequent rebound was kicked away by a Utah Tech defender just before a Bronco player was able to get to the ball.

Utah Tech (1-4) outshot Santa Clara 9-7 but were able to put any of them on frame.
