Men’s Soccer Closes Out Season with a Draw Against Saint Mary’s on Senior Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer seemingly scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute on a header by Jesse Anamoo but it was nullified due to an offsides call as the Broncos settled for a 1-all draw against Saint Mary's in the season finale on Saturday night.

Knotted at 1-all, the Broncos (4-5-6, 1-2-4 WCC) and the Gaels (7-6-5, 2-1-4 WCC) settled down in the second half as neither sides were able to crack the other's defense until Anamoo soared high above the Gaels defender, finding the back of the net.  However, the celebration was short lived as the offsides flag was raised.

All the scoring came in the opening half, first on Eduardo Lopez Perez's goal in the 32nd minute on a short pass from Oladayo Thomas to Caden Buckley just outside the corner of the 18 as it was lobbed  in front of the net that Lopez Perez headed in.

The Gaels answered in the 41st minute when Jude Zamora got the equalizer on a cross from Greg Brighton to knot the game up at 1-all.

Saint Mary's had a 15-10 advantage in shots but six of them were on frame for Santa Clara compared to four for the Gaels.  All three of Thomas' shots were on target to lead among all players.

Gaels goalkeeper Kash Oladapo was credited with five saves compared to three for Broncos' Blake Gillingham
