SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing their third game in eight days, Santa Clara men's soccer scraped to a 1-all draw against LMU on a late equalizer by Oladayo Thomas in a West Coast Conference battle on Saturday night at Stevens Stadium.
Thomas' goal came in the 78th minute on a fabulous individual effort where he received the sharp pass from James Redington up top just inside the 18, lifted the ball in the air over the defender and one-timed it as the ball deflected off a defender and past goalkeeper Mitchell Wilson who was leaning the other way. It was Thomas' fourth goal of the season.
With the score tied at 1-all, LMU (8-5-3, 2-2-1 WCC) had a bevy of quality chances in the final 12 minutes of the game, peppering the Broncos (4-4-5, 1-1-3 WCC) defense with six shots during the span including one that hit the post.
In total, the Lions outshot the Broncos 17-4 in the game. Bronco goalkeeper Felix Schaefer stopped five of those shots. The goal by Thomas was the lone shot on frame for SCU.
LMU got on the board in the 41st minute when Christian Ortiz and Braaden Fidelak linked up with Marco Byers-Mora, for his third goal of the year.
NOTES
- Santa Clara is 25-16-11 all-time against LMU.
