SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis returns home this weekend to play UC Davis on Saturday and Nevada on Sunday, after playing out of state the last two weekends.
While its counterpart, the Bronco women's team had its home matches interrupted by rain the last two weekends, the men's team were shielded from the elements playing indoors in Washington and in Utah, splitting the four matches.
The Broncos (4-3) won a pair in Seattle and lost two in Utah last weekend.
"It was a disappointing weekend in Utah. We didn't play how we wanted to play. We've been practicing and training well but sometimes that doesn't present itself on the match court," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus. "Both Utah State and BYU played well on their home courts and we missed a couple of chances here and there."
Santa Clara is 2-0 at home this season and are 21-4 at the Degheri Tennis Center with Angus as the head coach.
"We are a better outdoor team than an indoor team," said Angus. "We've improved indoors the past year but outdoors is where we play our best, particularly at Degheri so it will be great to be back at our home courts playing two good teams in UC Davis and Nevada."
The Broncos faced UC Davis (6-1) last season and beat the Aggies, 4-3.
The last time Santa Clara faced Nevada was two seasons ago where the Broncos came out on top, 4-2.
"If we play our best tennis, we stand a good chance of being successful but its getting to grips with coming outdoors again and getting back on our home court," said Angus.
