MORAGA, Calif. - A pair of Santa Clara men's tennis players won their singles matches at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Thursday to forge ahead to the round of 16.
Guillaume Dalmasso, who had an opening round bye, defeated Alex Lee of Stanford in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 while Arthur Neuhaus deposed Sacramento State's Jan Silva 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Dalmasso will face Ori Maior from Sacramento State and Neuhaus will take on Aryan Chaudhary of Stanford in the round of 16 matchups on Friday. Both matches will be played at 11 a.m.
James Bell and Santiago Hinojosa looked to join Dalmasso and Neuhaus in the round of 16 but Bell was defeated by Cal's Philip Hjorth 6-3, 6-1 and Hinojosa fell to Carlos Ramos of Saint Mary's 6-4, 6-3.
The five-day tournament is played at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex on the campus of Saint Mary's College.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships.
