Men's Tennis Pick Up Big Road Win at San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO - In a pivotal match in the West Coast Conference standings, Santa Clara men's tennis and San Francisco played only the singles portion due to weather concerns as the Broncos claimed four of the five matches to defeat the Dons 4-1 to move into sole position of fifth place in the WCC.

Guillaume Dalmasso needed three sets to beat Phuc Huynh 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 that clinched the match for the Broncos (9-10, 4-3 WCC) who entered the day tied with USF (11-10, 3-4 WCC) in fifth place.  The top six teams qualify for the WCC Championships (April 28-30) as the Broncos have two remaining conference matches.

After the two teams split the first two singles matches, Santa Clara strung together three-straight wins.

Playing on court five, Santiago Hinojosa took down Mitch Johnson 6-4, 6-3 to put the Broncos up 2-1.  Mann Shah followed with a straight set victory over Nitzan Ricklis 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on court three to give Santa Clara a 3-1 advantage.

Dalmasso's clinching victory possibly prevented the match from being determined in doubles play since Nick Cmager was down 5-2 in the third set before play was halted.

NEXT UP
