MALIBU, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis put up a stiff challenge against No. 24 Pepperdine but fell short, 4-2, in a West Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Mann Shah won both in doubles and singles as he helped the Broncos (9-11, 4-4 WCC) get off to a strong start against the nationally ranked Waves (16-6, 8-1 WCC).
Shah teamed up with Arthur Neuhaus atop the doubles lineup to defeat the No. 74-ranked doubles team of Daniel De Jonge and Eero Vasa 6-3. Guillaume Dalmasso and Santiago Hinojosa followed with a 7-6 (7-5) doubles point clinching victory over Pietro Fellin and Andrew Rogers.
Santa Clara was unable to carry the doubles momentum into singles play as the Waves took the first three matches, winning at courts one, five and six to take a 3-1 lead.
Shah got the Broncos to 3-2 when he took down No. 99-ranked Rogers 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 on court three.
The match clincher took three sets when Enrique Luque came from a set down to beat James Bell 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 on court four. When the match finished, No. 59-ranked Tim Zeitvogel was in a three set battle against Neuhaus, ahead 6-1, 4-6, 4-2.
