Top-Ranked Stanford Snaps Men’s Water Polo Winning Streak

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Dylan Woodhead scored four times and Ben Hallock and Andrew Churkian posted two goals apiece to help top-ranked Stanford pull away from Santa Clara men's water polo to claim an 11-4 win on Wednesday.

Tyler Abramson had one goal and four assists and Andrew Chun registered 10 saves for the Cardinal (12-1) in their seventh-straight win.

Shane Hughes and Mac Carey each tallied one goal and one assist for the Broncos (8-5) whose four-game winning streak was snapped in their home opener.

Woodhead's third goal gave Stanford a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter. His final strike increased the lead to 8-3 with less than 2 minutes remaining in that period.

Carey's goal pulled the Broncos within 4-2 with 38 seconds left in the opening quarter, but Stanford held them scoreless for the next 11 minutes.

Carey drew two of the Cardinals' eight kickouts, but the Broncos scored just once.

Stanford went 2-for-7 on the power play.

NOTES
Ryan Werner, Patrick Kirk, Dominick Kirk, Jack Rottman, Shane Hughes, Mac Carey and Sean Tehaney started for the Broncos. Tehaney posted six saves during the opening half. Chase Zamborelli played the final two periods in net and turned away 10 Stanford shots.
• With Carey's assist, he continued his streak of posting at least one in each game this season.
