Two Men’s Water Polo Players Earn National Honor

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Two seniors on the Santa Clara men's water polo team earned national recognition.

Mac Carey and Shane Hughes each received an honorable mention nod on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America team.

A second-team All-Western Water Polo Association choice this past season, Hughes posted team highs in goals (55) and steals (38), and was second in assists (51). He ended his career ranked tied for third on the school's all-time assists list (139) and 11th in goals (139).

Carey posted 49 goals and a career-high 67 assists this season on his way to honorable mention All-WWPA. He finished his career as the school's all-time assist leader (182) and ranked tied for fourth in goals (179) and fifth in kickouts drawn (155).

Both Carey and Hughes played in all 105 games the last four seasons and helped lead the Broncos (15-13) to a fourth-place showing at the 2019 WWPA Championship, the team's highest finish since 2013.
