Men’s Water Polo Signs Three Players for 2020-21

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a strong showing at the WWPA Championship, Santa Clara's men's water polo has signed Chase Raisin, Matt Somers, and Nico Valls to national letters of intent for the 2020-21 season.

"We are very excited about our three early signees," Santa Clara's head coach Keith Wilbur said. "All three players come from strong programs, compete at a high level, and play positions that really complement our returners for next year."

Raisin, a native of Santa Barbara, California, attended Santa Barbara High School. He helped his team secure two league championship titles and received the Nick Johnson Inspiration Award through the Olympic Development Program. In addition to water polo, Raisin enjoys playing basketball and is recognized as an avid harmonica player.

"Chase Raisin won CIF Southern Section Division III this year," Wilbur said.

Somers, a native of Encinitas, California, attended Cathedral Catholic High School. He played four years on the team and was named co-captain for the 2019 season. He earned a spot on the CIF All-League First Team in 2019. Somers is a three-year member of the California Scholarship Federation Academic Club.

"Matt Somers won CIF San Diego Section with Cathedral Catholic in 2018 and was the runner-up this year," Wilbur said.

Valls, a native of Miami, Florida, attended Ransom Everglades High School. He was recognized as the most valuable player his junior year. He is a fourth-year captain for his club team, Raider Water Polo. Valls helped run a summer school program with Breakthrough Miami for kids within his community.

"Nico Valls plays for one of the top programs in Florida which is always competing for the state championship," Wilbur said.
