DAVIS, Calif. – Nir Gross scored three times to help lead UC Davis to a 12-5 victory over Santa Clara men's water polo on Saturday.
Eric Martel, Holden Tamblyn and Michael Plastino each scored twice for the Aggies (11-7, 5-0) who remained perfect in Western Water Polo Association play
Mac Carey had two goals and one assist for the Broncos (11-11, 0-5) who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
UC Davis, which won for the fourth straight time, tallied the first seven goals of the game and led 9-2 at halftime before the Broncos finally heated up offensively in the final two quarters.
Carey's goal 27 seconds into the fourth quarter pulled Santa Clara within 10-5, but Jonah Addington had seven of his 15 saves the rest of the way to thwart any comeback attempt.
NOTES
• Ryan Werner, Patrick Kirk, Adam Low, Jack Rottman, Shane Hughes and Mac Carey started together for the seventh consecutive game. Chase Zamborelli played the entire game in net and posted eight blocks.
UP NEXT
The Broncos close out the regular season with three straight games, all at home. They face Fresno Pacific on Saturday at noon in a WWPA matchup.
