Men's Water Polo Drops First Game of Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - No. 17 Santa Clara men's water polo was unable to sustain their strong offensive start against ninth-ranked Princeton, falling to the Tigers 16-8 in the Broncos' opening game of the 2022 Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.

The Broncos' offense had a great start scoring four quick goals to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. That effort was stifled moving into the second quarter as Princeton locked things down defensively and quickly grabbed the lead at 8-6 at the halftime break. The Tigers then won the third quarter, 6-0, to tighten their grip on the lead and held on for the rest of the game as they picked up their 16th victory of the season.

Zach Fales, Kyto Fraley and Ben Kyrillos each finished with two goals to lead the Bronco attack. Fales also dished out a pair of assists and drew two exclusions. Chase Zamborelli made six saves in the net before giving way to Ethan Evans, who made three stops in the final 5:33 of action.

Santa Clara (6-10, 1-3) is back in action tomorrow with two games beginning with No. 14 Harvard at 10:40 a.m. The Broncos will then play Bucknell at 5:20 p.m.
