Women's Basketball Opens Practice

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball officially opened practice for the 2018-19 season Tuesday.

The Broncos are led by third-year head coach Bill Carr and welcome several newcomers to the squad in freshmen Lindsey VanAllen and Lexie Pritchard, junior college transfer Tia Hay as well as transfers Lauren Yearwood, Erica Meyer, and Joeseta Fatuesi who had to sit out 2017-18 due to NCAA transfer rules, and redshirt freshman Madison Piper.

"It was fun to get back with the group because they came in with a great focus," Carr said. "They worked hard and we got some things accomplished today. I think we'll continue to do that through fall practice."

Also back is 2017 All-WCC pick Emily Wolph who missed all but one game last year with an injury.

The top returning scorer is Ashlyn Herlihy who scored 8.5 points per game a year ago with 5.0 rebounds per game as well. Charise Holloway returns for her senior season, and second with Santa Clara, after leading the team in 3-pointers made while scoring 7.5 ppg.

The season begins with an exhibition against Academy of Arts on Oct. 30 with the regular season beginning Nov. 6 against Sonoma State at home. West Coast Conference action tipsoff against BYU on Dec. 29 and concludes at the Cougars March 2. The WCC Tournament will once again be in Las Vegas at the Orleans arena, beginning March 7.
