Three-Game Road Trip Begins for Women's Basketball at San Francisco

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball stays in the Bay Area but plays its first road West Coast Conference game of the year Saturday at 2 p.m. at San Francisco.

The Broncos suffered a pair of tough losses at home to BYU and San Diego to open conference play last week.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 61-39 all-time against San Francisco with the first meeting coming in 1964-65. Last season, the Dons won both matchups.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (7-6, 0-2 WCC) is second in the WCC allowing 59.7 points per game but is last in scoring offense with 57.9 ppg while shooting 39.2-percent from the field.

Tia Hay leads the Broncos with 13.8 ppg, 2.8 assists per game, and 2.2 steals per game. She has also hit a team-leading 18 3-pointers while adding 2.9 rebounds per game. Ashlyn Herlihy is second on the team in both scoring (9.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 pg) while shooting 44.1-percent from the floor, also second on the team. Lauren Yearwood is ninth in the country with 2.9 blocks per game and leads Santa Clara with 7.4 rpg.

THE DONS
San Francisco (5-8, 1-1 WCC) is scoring 71.2 ppg while allowing a league-high 72.4 ppg. The Dons are shooting 45.2-percent from the field and 32.2-percent from beyond the arc.

Shannon Powell's 16.8 ppg and 4.4 apg are fourth in the WCC and she leads San Francisco with 6.1 rpg and 2.2 spg. Julia Nielacna scores 11.7 ppg with Kia Vaalavirta scoring 9.8 behing a team-high 21 3-pointers.
