TUCSON, Ariz. - On the first day of The Cactus Classic on Friday, Santa Clara beach volleyball lost to a pair of Pac-12 schools.  First to host, Arizona, 4-1 and to Arizona State by the same score.

Match 1: Arizona 4 – Santa Clara 1

Facing Arizona (2-1) in the first match, the Broncos (2-3) took a 1-0 lead courtesy of Alexia Inman and Michelle Shaffer's victory over Alex Parkhurst and Alan Rennie, 21-7, 21-13, at No. 1 pairs.  However, the Wildcats won the next four matches, including two that went three-sets.

Leading 2-1, the Wildcats' No. 2 pair of Sarah Blacker and Maja Kaiser came back to defeat Julia Sangiacomo and Nicole Robison 13-21, 21-7, 15-5 to clinch the match.  

Match 2: Arizona State 4 – Santa Clara 1

In the second match, Arizona State (2-2) won the first three matches with the clincher coming at No. 3 pairs to defeat Santa Clara, 4-1.  Lila Bordis and Sarah Waters needed three sets to beat Sophia Tulino and Jordan Bennett, 21-15, 19-21, 15-12 to give the Sun Devils a team win.  

The Broncos (2-4) were able to salvage a point when Julia Sangiacomo and Nicole Robison downed Rylie Kael and Anya Pemberton, 21-17, 18-21, 15-5 at No. 2.

Santa Clara closes out play at The Cactus Classic with two matches Saturday.  They face Colorado Mesa at 9 a.m. and Boise State at 11 a.m.
