LEXINGTON, Ky. – Santa Clara beach volleyball players Julia Sangiacomo and Michelle Shaffer were named American Volleyball Coaches Association Top Flight award winners on Thursday.
The Top Flight program identifies excellence in college beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights.
Sangiacomo and Shaffer were recognized for their excellence at flight one where they posted a 14-3 record helping lead the Broncos to the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.
The Bronco pair was one of 15 pairs that garnered the award at flight one, and 62 pairs overall spanning all three NCAA divisions and NAIA.
In order to be eligible for the award, the pair must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight. If that pair won at least 75-percent of their matches, regardless of the team result of the duals, those athletes reach "Top Flight" Status.
