MORAGA, Calif. - In a rematch of last week's West Coast Conference matchup, it was Saint Mary's that came up on top this time over Santa Clara beach volleyball 4-1 on Wednesday.  Four of the five matches went the full three sets as the Gaels (14-12, 8-3 WCC) won three of them to pull out the victory.    

Unlike last week where the Broncos fell behind 2-0 before mounting a 3-2 comeback win, Santa Clara (9-16, 3-4 WCC) got off to a strong start thanks to Julia Sangiacomo and Michelle Shaffer's play atop the lineup where they defeated Chandler Cowell and Selbie Christensen 21-11, 15-21, 15-11.  

The next three matches all went three sets with the Gaels coming up on top in each of them.  

At No. 4, Aeriel Sundt and Hawley Harrer defeated Sophia Tulino and Claire Doud 23-21, 17-21, 15-10 to even the match at 1-all.  Jasmin Suarez and Jennifer Laird followed with a 19-21, 21-18, 15-9 victory over Elena Radeff and Alexie Epstein at No. 2 to pull ahead 2-1.  Ella Sandt and Genevieve Bane dropped the first set to Jordan Bennett and Alexia Gallegos before coming back to win 15-21, 21-12, 15-9 at No. 5.

The Gaels got the clincher in straight sets at No. 3, courtesy of Makenna Joyce and Karmin Brown over Alexia Inman and Casey Campbell 21-17, 23-21.

Santa Clara closes out the regular season with a pair of matches in Davis, California on Saturday, against San Francisco at 1 p.m. followed by UC Davis at 3 p.m.
