Women’s Tennis Newcomers Pick Up Wins at Cal Fall Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - Freshmen Kacey Feng and Velizara Fileva each won a singles match at the Cal Fall Invitational in the Santa Clara women's tennis fall season opener that ran from Friday until Sunday.

The invitational tournament hosted by Cal was comprised of 14 schools that included top-flight (blue), then gold, followed by white brackets in both singles and doubles play.

Fileva beat Pacific's Olivia Wiese 6-2, 6-2 in the gold singles match consolation bracket. The freshman from Plovdiv, Bulgaria also won a doubles match along with senior Jamie Schroer over Nevada's Carla Del Barrio and Mathilde Sarcele 8-4 in the white bracket's round of 16.

Feng's victory came over Nevada's Carla Del Barrio 6-3, 6-4 in the white singles match consolation bracket.

Schroer and sophomore Varya Zlotnik also won a match in both singles and doubles.

In all, the Broncos won four singles and three doubles matches over the course of the three day tournament.
