Women's Tennis Pick Up Two Wins at First Day of Cal Winter Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - Santa Clara women's tennis kicked off its spring season with a pair of wins during the first day of competition at the Cal Winter Invitational on Friday.  

The Broncos started their day with the doubles competition on the Channing Tennis Courts.  Playing three doubles matches against Cal Poly, the Broncos came up on top in one contest when the tandem of Jamie Schroer and Varya Zlotnik defeated Melissa LaMette and Peyton Dunkle, 6-1.  

In the afternoon singles session, the Broncos moved over to the Hellman Tennis Complex and played five matches against players from Saint Mary's.  The lone Bronco victory came from JennaMarie Gordon who took down Julia Ronney, 6-4, 6-4.  Schroer nearly picked up her second win of the day but fell in three sets to Lene Mari Hovda.
