SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's tennis fell to Saint Mary's 6-1 on Sunday in a West Coast Conference road match.
The Broncos (7-5, 1-1 WCC) had won six of its last seven matches and looked to carry the momentum onto the courts of Timothy Korth Tennis Complex but were unable to against the Gaels (7-6, 2-0) who featured a ranked doubles team and a ranked singles player.
In doubles, the two squads split the first two matches with the No. 36 ranked duo of Jordan Harris and Mariia Kozyreva defeating Katherine Petty and Giulia Hayer 6-4 before the Broncos came right back with Finley Kalinic and JennaMarie Gordon downing Jocelyn Massey and Julia Ronney 6-4. The doubles point came down to court three where Lene Mari Hovda and Olivia Rook beat Jamie Schroer and Varya Zlotnik 6-4 to give the Gaels the first team point.
Saint Mary's then won the first three singles matches including the match clincher by Gabriela Tevez over Giulia Hayer 6-2, 7-5 on court six.
Santa Clara managed to get a point on the board when Jamie Schroer was victorious over Jordan Harris 6-3, 7-5.

The Broncos hosts WCC foes Portland and Gonzaga on Friday and Saturday. First serve for both matches at 11 a.m.
