PROVO, Utah - Santa Clara women's tennis got off to a strong start taking the doubles point against BYU but dropped all six singles matches to fall 6-1 in a West Coast Conference match on the road.
The Broncos (9-7, 2-3 WCC) won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point on Finley Kalinic and JennaMarie Gordon's 7-5 clinching win over Leah Heimuli anfd Helen Jiao.
However, the Cougars (9-13, 3-3 WCC) won the first three singles matches, all in straight sets, to take a 3-1 lead.
The three remaining matches went to three sets but Emilee Astle was the first one to get the win, defeating Velizara Fileva 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match.
