Volleyball Fights 'till the End at LMU

LOS ANGELES — The Santa Clara University volleyball team battled hard in Saturday's final set, but host LMU was still able to pull off a sweep, beating the Broncos, 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-20), in a West Coast Conference match at Gersten Pavilion.

Santa Clara (8-16, 4-8 WCC) was within one at 21-20 in the third set, but the Lions (14-7, 9-3 WCC) scored each of the last four points to escape with a 25-20 set win and clinch the sweep. The Broncos found their rhythm and came on strong in the third, hitting .314 with 13 team kills only two errors. It was a 250-point improvement from the first two sets.

Layla Truitt logged her eighth double-digit kills performance of the year with a team-high 11. Julia Sangiacomo had eight kills and seven digs. Nive Tuileta collected 24 assists and six digs, while Kat Georgiadis tallied a team-best 11 digs.

LMU was led by Kari Geissberger, who led all players with 16 kills, a .517 hitting percentage and four blocks. Audrey Klemp had 11 kills and hit .421. Four different Lions hit over .400 with at least six kills each. LMU hit .385 as a team, including .400 in both the second and third sets.
