Volleyball Tops Portland to Win Again in Five on the Road

PORTLAND, Ore. — Another five-set marathon battle ensued Saturday afternoon – the Santa Clara University volleyball team's second in three days – and the Broncos again emerged victorious, holding off host Portland to win, 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-13 ), in a West Coast Conference match at the Chiles Center.

Santa Clara (10-18, 6-10 WCC) had four players with double-digit kills, the first time it's done that in at least the past two seasons. Julia Sangiacomo led the way with 17 kills and logged her second double-double of the week – sixth of the season – with 10 digs. She also tied for the match lead with three service aces and tied her season high with five blocks.

Layla Truitt followed up her season-high 25 kills on Thursday with 16 more on Saturday. She nearly had a triple-double with season highs in digs (8) and blocks (6). Sophia Tulino tied her season best by hitting .400 with 12 kills. She also narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs while chipping in two aces. Lia Okammor had 11 kills on .381 hitting and five blocks out of the middle.

Portland (10-16, 3-12 WCC) had three players with at least 10 kills, led by Jayde Harris' match-high 25. Harris had a double-double with 10 digs and also added three aces and two blocks. Charity Bradley had 10 kills, and so did Elin Larsson.

Santa Clara's defense was strong Saturday, logging a season-high 14 total blocks – its most since doing the exact same thing last year on the road at Portland on Oct. 14, 2021. The Broncos had 59 digs, the ninth time this season they've gone over 50 digs as a team. Kat Georgiadis led all players with 23 digs – one more than she had Thursday at Gonzaga, and her seventh 20-plus digs match this season.

Santa Clara returns home for its final home match of the season at 6 p.m. Friday versus San Francisco. Fans can purchase tickets and find all live coverage links on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
