Four Broncos Collect all-WCC Volleyball Honors

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's volleyball team earned five total all-West Coast Conference honors Monday, highlighted by senior outside hitter Julia Sangiacomo being named to the 2022 all-WCC first team, as announced by the conference office.

Sangiacomo earned her third consecutive all-WCC first team award Monday. It made her the fifth person in Broncos volleyball history to earn three all-WCC first team honors, and the first since Nikki Hess did it from 2014-16. Sophomore libero Kat Georgiadis was named to the honorable mention list, as was freshman middle blocker Lia Okammor. Okammor and classmate Layla Truitt both landed on the WCC all-freshman team.

Sangiacomo set career highs in 2022 with 445 kills, a 4.24 kills per set average and a .297 hitting percentage. She led the WCC in total kills, total points and points per set, all while ranking among the nation's top-40 in those categories. Her 4.24 kills per set rank eighth all-time in a single season at Santa Clara. She climbed into fourth place on the all-time career kills list at Santa Clara this season, sitting only two away from 1,500 with 1,498 career terminations.

Sangiacomo was named to this year's preseason all-WCC team and earned WCC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 7-13. She also earned all-tournament honors at three of the Broncos' early season non-conference tournaments: the season-opening Classic City Clash at the University of Georgia, the Broncos' own Santa Clara Invitational, and the Northern Colorado Classic.

Georgiadis anchored the Broncos' defense in 2022. She was second in the conference in both total digs (441) and digs per set (4.12). Her 441 digs were a career best for a season. She was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-16. Georgiadis posted seven matches with 20 or more digs, and 14 with at least 15 digs.

Okammor was a dual threat for the Broncos in the middle. She was top-15 in the WCC in both total blocks (85) and blocks per set (0.87). She also had 114 kills and hit .318 on the year. Okammor only got better as the year went on. She had 21 matches during the season with multiple blocks – and 13 of those came in the last 14 matches she played. The same went for her offense. She started the year with only three matches of five or more kills through her first 17 appearances. She ended the year with eight such performances in her final 10 matches, including five straight while hitting .320.

Layla Truitt earned her first career start in the Broncos' second home match of the season, and then got on a roll and cemented her place in the starting lineup. She ran off five consecutive matches of 10 or more kills from Sept. 11-23, a streak that began in only the second start of her career. She finished the year strong, helping guide the Broncos on their current four-match winning streak with four consecutive matches of at least 12 kills.

She collected a season-high 25 kills during the Bronco's five-set victory at Gonzaga on Nov. 10. She tallied her first career double-double in the season finale, putting up 14 kills and a season-best 11 digs in Santa Clara's four-set winner on the road at Saint Mary's.

Sangiacomo, Georgiadis, Okammor and Truitt will all head with the Broncos to the Pacific Northwest on Friday to face Portland State in the first round of the 2022 NIVC. Fans can find all live coverage links on the Broncos' schedule page.
