No. 29 Santa Clara Men's Tennis Edges Yale 4-3

SANTA CLARA, Calif..  – Defending its home court, the No. 29 Santa Clara men's tennis squad (11-3) edged out a 4-3 victory over Yale in the first of three home matches this week. The win was highlighted by Kyle Dandan picking up a convincing win over a fellow ITA-ranked opponent.

In doubles play, Yale got off to a great start. The Bulldogs picked up two of three doubles matches to put significant pressure on the Broncos.

In singles play, the Broncos were able to fend off Yale winning four of six singles bouts. Dandan, currently ranked No. 103 in singles play, defeated No. 78 Marc Powers in straight sets. After Yale won two straight matches, the Broncos pulled off three-straight singles victories. Tom Pham (pictured) got the Broncos back on track with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Erik Blumenkranz. Ilya Osintsev and Eugene Muchynski also added wins.

"I thought Yale played us really tough," said Santa Clara head coach Derek Mills. "After a slow start we started to find our way and took care of business."

The Broncos continue this week's homestand with two matches on Saturday. Santa Clara hosts Idaho and Sonoma State at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
