Men's Tennis, Three Broncos Receive Accolades In ITA Rankings

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 32 Santa Clara men's tennis team has hit unprecedented territory in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. In the most recent rankings, released April 10, the Broncos soared in all three rankings- team, singles and doubles rankings.

The 17-4 Broncos jumped two spots from No. 34 to No. 32. The team's all-time high of No. 29 was achieved earlier this season, but this ranking is the highest the Santa Clara squad has been this deep into a season. With nine contests against ranked opponents, the Broncos have tallied six wins against ranked opponents, which helped them stay among the top-35 teams in the country. Most recently, Santa Clara downed No. 49 Cal Poly and will host No. 19 San Diego in a pivotal WCC match on Friday.

In singles, senior Kyle Dandan surged from No. 111 to No. 76 in the ITA's singles rankings. Dandan, a senior from the Phillipines, has played as the Broncos primary No. 1 singles player all season. The senior helped his ranking with a monsterous win over the country's No. 20-ranked player, Andre Dome of Cal Poly. Dandan has played six fellow ITA ranked players and has won three of the contests. Dandan's ranking is the highest a player has ever been ranked this late in a season for the Broncos.

WCC Doubles Players of the Month, Ilya Osintsev and John Lamble (pictured) garnered another accolade by being ranked in the ITA's latest doubles poll. Osintsev and Lamble made a splash into the ITA rankings as the No. 59 duo in the country. They are the first Santa Clara tandem this spring to make this list and the first to receive ITA recognition since Dandan and Nico Vinel were ranked to start the fall. In doubles, Osintsev and Lamble have played together in every dual match dating back to Feb. 24 and have served as the No. 1 doubles tandem. During the month of March, Osintsev and Lamble have accrued a 7-1 record including an upset win over the ITA's No. 2 doubles tandem of Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney of Pepperdine. Osintsev and Lamble defeated the nation's then-No. 2 tandem 7-5.  On their way to a 7-1 record during March, the tandem won five straight matches. Overall on the year, the duo is 10-8.

Dandan, Lamble, Osintsev and the rest of the Bronco squad battle two WCC foes this weekend, including a pivotal matach agains No. 19 San Diego. Click here for this weekend's preview.
