SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University senior goalkeeper Michael Wishart was named the Western Water Polo Association Co-Player of the Week for Sept. 21.
Wishart was terrific at the annual Nor Cal Tournament hosted by University of the Pacific. He collected 49 blocks in the Broncos four games, including a personal best 18 in the 9-6 win against St. Francis. He also had 17 blocks in the Broncos' 12-9 victory over West Valley College.
"He has been consistent all season and it's great to see him get some recognition," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "In the two games we won he had 18 and 17 blocks which was obviously a huge factor in both games. He's been making big blocks all season as the backbone of our defense, which I think is our strength as a team."
Wishart will try to continue his great play this weekend at the Aggie Shootout hosted by UC Davis. The No. 15 Broncos will play Redlands at 8 a.m. and Occidental at 1:50 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 24. They will return to the pool on Sun., Sept. 25 against La Verne at 9:10 a.m. and No. 3 Cal at 3 p.m.
