This past weekend, Santa Clara Men's Water Polo senior Daley Meistrell broke the Santa Clara Broncos career assists record of 139 set by former standout Jack Wall. With five assists last weekend, Meistrell now has recorded 141 assists in his career. To add to the sweetness, his record-breaking assist came in the Broncos' 9-6 upset over No. 10 UC Davis. 

"Daley is so good at setting up his teammates because he has a great understanding of the game," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur. "I think he knows what to look for and he can anticipate what is going to happen one or two steps ahead of everybody else. This game sense along with the nice touch he can put on a ball makes him an excellent passer and our team leader in assists."

Breaking records at Santa Clara is nothing new for Meistrell. Last season, his 57 assists broke the Bronco single season record for assists, also formerly held by Wall. The senior captain is also considered to be one of the Broncos best all-around players. Meistrell has already registered double-figures in four statistical categories with 12 goals, 29 assists, 22 steals, and 11 KO assists.

"He's quick, tough, smart and has good hands," added Wilbur. "Daley also sees the game as well as any player I have ever coached. Defensively he knows when to press to his man, when to help and he is always in the right place at the right time. Offensively, he always recognizes when is his teammates are going to be open and he puts the ball in right place at the right time.  He makes everyone around him better and that is why his teammates like playing with him so much."

The Broncos will return to action Sun., Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. as they host No. 3 UCLA.
