Santa Clara, Calif. – Santa Clara softball takes a break from PCSC play Wed., April 3, when it travels to local rival San Jose State for a 3 p.m. game.

The Broncos are 3-24 in non-conference games (5-26 overall, 2-2 PCSC), but are riding a two-game win streak after sweeping the last two games in a four-game set vs. LMU.

Carissa Theis has assumed the workload for Santa Clara in the circle. In the past four games, she is 1-1, but was one out away from adding another win to her record vs. the Lions. She struck out 19 batters while scattering 19 hits and allowing eight runs. Her ERA for the weekend was 1.80.

Casandra Padilla, who has only played nine games in a Bronco uniform to date, has kick started the Broncos offense, riding a five-game hit streak, including three multi-hit games. In her first at-bat at the SCU Softball Field, she hit the center-field fence on the fly, good for a stand-up double. She would go on to record seven hits in 14 at-bats, including a deep homerun that was the second-act to leadoff hitter Stephanie Fisher's homer. Additionally, she was 2-for-2 on stolen bases, and owned a .500 batting average for the weekend.

Fisher has established herself as a premier player in the PCSC. Her.430 batting average, .640 slugging percentage and .505 on base percentage are all good for first in the PCSC.  Fisher opened her 2013 campaign on a 15-game hit streak, and has notched a hit in 26-of-31 games, with a team-leading 10 multi-hit games. She has 37 total hits, eight doubles, two triples and two homeruns. 

Jordan Newell and Rochelle Rivera have combined for 39 hits and 14 runs for the Broncos, as well as nine RBI. Kelly Scribner has notched 16 hits and two runs with three RBI. 

San Jose State (26-11 overall, 5-1 WAC) is coming off a doubleheader sweep of their own against UTEP. Markesha Collins leads the Spartans with a .379 batting average and 39 hits, 21 runs and 26 RBI. Cheryl Freitas (.337 BA), has 29 hits, 12 runs and 21 RBI. 

In the circle, the Spartans are paced by Amanda Pridmore, who has garnered Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season. She boasts a 2.07 ERA, and has allowed 104 hits, 48 runs, 33 walks this season, while striking out 165 batters.

Santa Clara is 0-6 against San Jose State dating back to 2010.
