Bronco Women Go 2-0 on the Road

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team earned two victories this weekend, beating UCSB Friday 4-3 and Northern Arizona University today, 4-2. The Broncos are 4-0 going in to its first WCC match vs. USF on February 4th.

On Friday the 28th the Broncos were swept in doubles play, but won the team contest with hard fought singles matches. Katie Le, Kelly Lamble and Kacie Wagner collected three points for the Broncos at their respective positions. "Kelly came back and won a tough third set against a very good player," said head coach Ben Cabell.

It was Jessica Agra at the six position however, who rallied from being down 5-0 in the third set to win 7-5, that gave the Broncos the decisive fourth point for the win.

"It was one of the most incredible come backs I've ever seen. She did a great job of fighting and staying tough, and not giving the girl any free points during that third set, just really impressive," said Cabell.

"I was just thinking about the team, and I knew I was the last deciding match. I really focused and fought hard for the team," said Agra on her impressive comeback.

Despite delays from wet courts, the Broncos then defeated Northern Arizona today January 29th 4-2.

"We're really happy to come home 2-0. There were some tough circumstances today because the courts were wet and the girls had to sit around and wait. After we finally got on though, we did a good job of dealing with a little adversity. NAU is a tough team we've lost to them a couple of years ago, so it's a really good win."

The Broncos begin WCC play next week on February 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Park vs. the USF Dons.
