Santa Clara, Calif. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked the Santa Clara women's team No. 64 in the nation this week, which is the highest ranking in program history to date. The Broncos are 10-2 and 3-0 in the WCC.
"We are really proud of the girls. They have all worked really hard and they deserve this distinction," said head coach Ben Cabell. "It feels great to accomplish a goal that we made at the beginning of the season, and I think we all feel that it's only going to get better from here."
Standout sophomore Maggie McGeorge and two-year captain Kacie Wagner are both excited with the ranking. "Since last year we got to No. 75, to make it to No. 64 this year is a great improvement," said McGeorge. "We are really excited. This is something we have worked towards for the past few years, so it's great to see it happen," said Wagner.
In addition, the Broncos' freshman standout, Katie Le, received an individual national ranking (No. 110), in acknowledgement of her 10-0 record at the No.1 singles position.
Le is happy but not satisfied with the honor, "I'm really excited about the ranking, but it also motivates me to be ranked even higher."
Coach Cabell noted that Le's accomplishments are even extremely notable because of her freshman standing. "For Katie to do this as a freshman is even more remarkable and it is a great sign for her future at Santa Clara."
Go Broncos!
