Santa Clara, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team looks to avenge last season's 6-1 loss to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this Saturday February, 19 at 2:00 p.m. on the Degheri tennis courts.
Last season, Cal Poly finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Big West standings. During the 2011 campaign, the Mustang squad is currently 5-3, holding the No. 68 national ranking. After recently sweeping the Broncos' WCC opponent Loyola Marymount 7-0, the Mustangs are fresh off a 7-0 loss to No. 7 UCLA.
"We're really excited about this match. It's another chance for us to beat a good ranked team," said head coach Ben Cabell. "They've got a lot of new players this year, so we know they are going to present a challenge, but we aren't really sure what to expect."
Cabell's squad has been playing with confidence and seems to be energized yet not satisfied with the 8-1 start.
"The girls feel great. I am impressed that they are happy with our record so far, but that they also feel like we could have been 9-0. That's a great place to be. They always want to be better."
Following the face off with the Mustangs, the Bronco squad will take on the Texas San Antonio Road Runners Sunday February, 20 at 11:00 a.m.
"Playing a team from out of our region, we never know what to expect," said Cabell. "But we will definitely have to play hard no matter what."
Check back in throughout the weekend for updates.
Go Broncos!
