Santa Clara, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team beat University Texas San Antonio 6-1 on Sunday, but was worn down by the Mustangs of Cal Poly today with a 5-2 loss. The Broncos are 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the WCC.

The Broncos raked the remaining rain of the courts Sunday morning to open up play for the week against UTSA, after Friday's match with Cal Poly was postponed. The weather limited the Broncos practice time the days leading up to the match, but their performance reflected otherwise.

"San Antonio was a good win for us, especially since we did not have as much time on the court as we wanted leading up to the match," said head coach Ben Cabell. "The girls played really well considering the conditions."

Despite close doubles matches and valiant singles efforts from Kelly Lamble and Alex Zaniewski today, the Cal Poly Mustangs proved to be too much.

"Cal Poly is the type of team we are trying to beat, and they are very good," said Cabell. "We feel like we are right there, and that we need to get over the hump, but the girls still played really well and gave a good effort today."

Katie Le and Kelly Lamble anchored the Broncos at the No. 1 and 2 positions with victories, but the Mustangs secured the doubles point and swept the remaining singles matches to solidify a win for Cal Poly on the road.

The Broncos continue WCC action this coming week with a match vs. Loyola Marymount Sunday February 27, at 11:00 a.m.
